Who We Are & How We Got Here
In 1991, while stationed at the Pentagon, Clayton took a course at the Smithsonian in collecting Antiquarian books.  By the following spring, he was actively buying and selling first edition Civil War books at shows and on the internet.  In fact, he was the first book dealer to use the "world wide web," to sell Civil War books!  Over the years, as Clayton continued to serve in the Navy, he started adding different subjects and working with a wide range of publishers to serve the needs of his customers.  With hundreds of books in stock and over 200,000 books listed on-line, he still maintains the highest standard of customer service.
In 1999 Clayton retired from the military moved from the San Francisco Bay area with his wife Suzanne to the mountains of Western North Carolina.  They live in a house that was built in 1866 by a Civil War Captain, Jonathan Miller who authored a book about his war time experiences.  The bookstore staff includes their  Kitty Sherman. In addition to the bookstore, the Thompson's manage a luxury vacation rental property on nearby Ashe Lake.   For more information on Petite Maison du Lac click on the button below.
